Program Of Study

Those wishing to gain or update Responsible Service of Alcohol to work in the Hospitality sector. This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol.
Responsible practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This unit therefore applies to any workplace where alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including all types of hospitality venues, packaged liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Support

At the time of enrolment prospective students are made aware of the fact that a reasonable level of reading, writing and comprehension of the English language is required, due to the high volume of documents required to be processed as part of the course and in practice, once qualified.
Students will need reading skills to read at times complex information in:
  • General, regulatory and advisory information issued by local, or state and territory liquor licensing authorities
  • In house policies and procedures
  • Specific provisions of relevant state or territory licensing requirements
  • Read a range of identification (ID) and proof of age documents, signage, and warning signs and wording within in-house policies and procedures.
Student will require numeracy skills to:
  • Calculate volume and number of standard drinks or samples
  • Determine customer’s age from date of birth on ID and proof of age documents

Delivery and Assessment Arrangements

The course will be conducted face to face in the classroom with no more than twelve (12) participants. The course consists of PowerPoint and video presentations, theory and practical aspects of assessment, practical RSA assessment in a simulated environment.
